Class size

Class sizes are kept small, to ensure all students receive individual attention.

This course is a combination of theory and practical-based learning. The emphasis is always on how the theory components of the course apply to real life situations.

There is also a workplace placement component of the course to be completed in students own time.

Well, we are more than happy to discuss with you the flexible options available to becoming a fitness instructor at your own pace, in the comfort of your own home or office. What is required of you? 

Full-time intensive

Part-time:

  • This course takes approximately 120 contact hours to complete. You have six months from the last lecture date to complete all the assessments.
  • Class sessions are run over 10 full days. It is highly recommended that you try to attend all classes in the course, however, we do recognise that in certain circumstances you will not be able to do so. If this occurs we will try to assist you to ‘catch up’.
  • Pass theory and practical assessments throughout the course.
  • Workplace placement involving approximately 20 hours and associated workbook material are also required.
  • Finally, successful completion of this course requires that you complete a level 2 first aid certificate.

Grants / Assistance

The IHF is a registered provider of the Parents Returning to Earning Program (a Victorian Government initiative). All our nationally accreditted courses are approved under this program. To see whether you are a parent eligible for this $1000 grant see the PRTE Website or call 1300 303 413. 

The Certificate III & IV in Fitness courses are Centrelink approvef for Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABstudy and the Pensioner Education Supplement, subject to Centrelink eligibility conditions. Students enquiring about their entitlement should visit Centrelink or contact 13 24 90 and quote Institute of Health and Fitness course education number 3P629.

Grading policy

To gain the qualification offered by this course you must obtain a Level 2 First Aid qualification, complete a workplace placement in a gym of your choice, and pass all practical, theory, and verbal assessments set during your completion of this course.
