Do you wish to become a qualified Personal Trainer? Would you like to be able to work in the fitness industry with a nationally-recognised qualification? This will give you the skills and experience you need to make your mark in the Australian fitness industry.
This is an exciting course that builds further on to the Certificate III in Fitness. It is aimed at Personal Trainers wishing to upgrade their qualifications from the old VICFIT structured course in order to align themselves with the new Nationally Recognised Qualifications, as well as those who have completed the Certificate III in Fitness.

The course is designed to qualify students as a Personal Trainer in all three specialisations:
· Personal Trainer
· Older Adults Trainer
· Children's Trainer
Course outline
Information incorporated in the course includes:
Advanced Resistance Taining (similar to what is taught in the Level 2 Strength and Conditioning course)
Postural Screening and Assessment
Management and Marketing issues
Exercise for Older Adults and Children
Knowledge on Exercise for Special Populations (includes common medical conditions and medications you may face and the implications they have for your exercise perscription)
Advanced Anatomy, Exercise Physiology and Nutrition

Class sizes are kept small, to ensure all students receive individual attention.
How you will learn
This course is a combination of theory and practical-based learning. The emphasis is always on how the theory components of the course apply to real life situations.
There is also assignment work that needs to be completed as part of the course.

Unable to make the scheduled classes available? Well, we are more than
happy to discuss with you the flexible options available to becoming a Personal Trainer at your own pace. This form of learning has been very successful for many students. Have a look at a sample of our course material and discover how easy this learning process could be for you.
What this course requires of you
Class sessions are run over 12 days, taking approximately 100 contact hours to complete. You have six months from the last lecture date to complete all the assessments. It is highly recommended that you try to attend all classes in the course, however, we do recognise that in certain circumstances you will not be able to do so. If this occurs we will try to assist you to ‘catch up’.
Avoid
schools where the instructors have not real fitness industry experience
or if they have gained their instructional experience via a short
“train the trainer” course.
Grants /Assistance
The IHF is a registered provider of the Parents Returning to Earning Program (a Victorian Government initiative). All our nationally accreditted courses are approved under this program. To see whether you are a parent eligible for this $1000 grant see the PRTE Website or call 1300 303 413.
The Certificate III & IV in Fitness courses are Centrelink approvef for Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABstudy and the Pensioner Education Supplement, subject to Centrelink eligibility conditions. Students enquiring about their entitlement should visit Centrelink or contact 13 24 90.
To gain the qualification you must complete and pass all practical, theory, written and verbal assessments set during your completion of this course.
Before you start
There are no pre-class readings, activities, or subject prerequisites, apart from previous successful completion of the Certificate III in Fitness or old VICFIT course qualification.
