SRF50206: Diploma of Fitness – Fitness Specialist Courses
Do you want to advance your professional standing in the fitness industry and become a qualified Fitness Specialist? Would you like to be able to work closely with a range of health professionals and hold a nationally-recognised qualification? Then the new nationally-recognised qualification, the Diploma of Fitness (Fitness Specialist), course will give you extensive knowledge, skills and experience required to move up in the Australian fitness industry.
This advanced course is aimed at people who not only have an interest in health and well-being but also want to understand thoroughly how the body works and how to help the body recover from injury/illness and pass on this knowledge to clients.
Why choose this course?
As a Diploma of Fitness graduate you will be qualified to work in a variety of environments relating to the delivery of higher-level fitness training, sports conditioning and other fitness and health-related activities.
As a Fitness Specialist you will be involved in the planning and delivery of exercise programs for moderate-risk clients in a range of unpredictable circumstances, working in conjunction with suitably qualified, allied health professionals and/or medical professionals.
The course will also assist you to manage other staff. It is also of benefit to those in allied health professions such as massage and physiotherapy. (*Exemptions are available due to recognition of prior learning.)

Objectives
As a Fitness Specialist you will be able to:

Work in a variety of health and fitness environments

Plan and deliver exercise for moderate-risk specific populations, in collaboration with and under the guidance and supervision of allied health professionals, eg. exercise physiologist, physiotherapist

Plan and deliver higher level fitness training and sports conditioning, including for elite athletes
-
Manage GP referrals requesting admission into and supervision within specific approved programs
-
Liaise with a range of other professionals from both the fitness and health industries, and engage in project management and health promotional activities

Carry out the functions of middle management, including staff management and training.
Courses outline
The Diploma of Fitness covers many different topics designed to educate you to plan, deliver and monitor exercise interventions for moderate-risk individuals, working in close co-operation with suitably qualified, allied health professionals. These include:

Prerequisites
You must have completed the Certificate IV in Fitness (or equivalent) before you can enrol in the Diploma of Fitness.
Class size
Class sizes are kept small, to ensure all students receive individual attention.
How you will learn
This course is a combination of theory and practical-based learning. The emphasis is always on how the theory components of the course apply to real life situations. There is also a workplace placement component.
What this course requires of you
This course takes two semesters to complete (if you have already completed the Certificate IV in Fitness). During this time you will complete approximately 250 contact hours. You are also required to undertake a 60hr placement in a self-care hostel/nursing home/rehabilitation centre. You will have six months from the last lecture date to complete all the assessments.
It is highly recommended that you try to attend all classes; however, we do recognise that in certain circumstances you will not be able to do so. If this occurs we will try to assist you to ‘catch up’.

To gain the qualification offered by this course you must successfully undertake and pass all practical, theory, and verbal assessments set during your completion.
