Dream becomes reality

Doing Certificate IV at the Institute of Health & Fitness has been the best thing for my career.  In such a short space of time I have started my business and it has gone from strength to strength.

I found the lecturers (that were mostly doctors) to be very informative and the masses amount of education and knowledge they have is incredible.

The best thing i got out of the course was CONFIDENCE knowing that I am well equipped to go out there and change people's lives in a positive way.  I am also very confident being able to source information that I have little knowledge on to make a difference to my clients training, this is due to the extensive course work that was expected of us.

After spending many years in the fitness industry my ambition was to run my own gym. In the process, I needed my Certificate IV in Fitness. The IHF was my first choice because of their reputation and professionalism. The course content and lecturers were of the highest quality.
My experience with the IHF is that they have exceeded my expectations, and I would strongly recommend them to anyone wanting a career in fitness.

Worth the travel

Once a week, I would get up early and drive over 30kms each way to go to class. There are many educational facilities much closer to me however after researching all the courses, it was clear the additional benefits attained from studying at Institute of Health and Fitness (IHF) were too good to refuse.

Having an alliance with McKinnon Sports Medicine had many advantages. We had the chance to see the theory come alive in action. The participation of a live VO2 Max test was one of the highlights providing an experience that can not be duplicated by video or book.

Classes kept to a small group for easy learning. I've a number of friends in the fitness industry who have completed their Cert III at other institutions and on numerous occasions have said to me "You're so lucky, I wish my course had taught us that".

I feel privileged to have done my fitness course at the IHF. I would highly recommend this to anyone considering a fitness course. We were taught by people practicing in the medical sports industry and the real life examples and additional materials handed out were invaluable. Staff were extremely friendly and approachable and clearly passionate about their work. Thank you to your all IHF staff.

ist2_5520573_fitness_series.jpgA successful rural career

Having decided to obtain my level 4 Certificate in Fitness Training the obvious next step was to figure out the mode of study. I had previously completed my level 3 Certificate via correspondence and while adequate I wanted something that would give me face to face contact with lecturers as well as others in the industry. I searched the internet and came up with a list of possibilities.

I decided to study here because my first contact with the Institute of Health and Fitness was a positive one. The staff members were very enthusiastic, taking the time to answer all my queries regarding the course. The lecturers at the IHF were either currently researching or lecturing in universities, or were persons who were actively involved in the fitness industry. This was important to me. I first stepped into a gym twenty years ago and it was apparent that the fitness industry has been changing rapidly. Learning from people who were both at the coal face and doing the research would provide current, up to date information. The course itself runs outside of normal office hours and as a full time dad living in country Victoria, this appealed to my current lifestyle.

I had fun doing the course. The lecturers and course materials were interesting and the delivery of the information was in a relaxed atmosphere that made my time at the IHF an enjoyable one. I have since found the course topics practical and relevant as often I find myself referring back to the course notes to confirm that I am on the right track. In addition there has always been the offer of assistance post study should I need advice on any particular issue and this provides peace of mind for me as I am located in country Victoria and run a one man operation with no one to bounce ideas off.

Mostly the course has enabled me to move on in the fitness industry with the necessary skills and knowledge to be effective and make an income from personal training. The post course interview to review assignments for me personally was also excellent as the advice given on keeping things simple, has payed off.

I am currently serving a rural client base as well as working for a private secondary college providing fitness instruction to students, staff, and parents.

Expanding Business

I completed both Certificate III & IV in Fitness with the Institute of Health and Fitness at McKinnon Sports Medicine. Each course contained the highest quality information presented by great professionals. When looking to do Certificate III, I wasn't happy to go through other providers because the standard of the instructors wasn't always clear. I knew with the IHF team that I would be taught by university educated (many with more than one degree!) lectures. I am now self-employed and looking to expand my business with extra staff and new premises.

Beating the daily grind

ist2_4151784_fitness_fun_on_exercise_bike.jpgAfter spending 45 days at the Army Recruit Training Centre training to be part of the Army Reserves I reluctantly returned to my civilian life and to my desk at work. Clicking away on my keyboard I realised I did not want to have a desk job for the rest of my life. I wanted a profession that required me to be active and one that would allow me to work outside on gorgeous sunny days... I wanted a job as a Personal Trainer!!

I searched the net for fitness courses and came across a great number of them. The certificates through the IHF stood out most to me because of the face to face contact and the personal class sizes. One other thing that impressed me about the Institute of Health and Fitness was that each subject area was taught by a professional from that specific field.

The professionalism rubbed off and made the course empowering. I felt like we were not just becoming Personal Trainers but were going to make a real difference in our future clients' lives. Since graduating from the IHF with Certificates III & IV I have worked for Deakin University - training participants through an exercise/protein supplement study for the Nutrition department and also became a Body Pump instructor. Now I teach for Beach House and Genesis gyms. I have never felt more fit and strong in my life, and I get paid for it!!!

Catering for my every need

Having recently completed Certificate IV in Fitness at the Institute of Health & Fitness, I would like to provide some feedback on the benefits of the course.

  • Lecturers are of high standard - their qualifications & their ability to teach and deliver relevant information. They were also very willing to offer extra help if required;
  • The workbooks were of great value, on completion they provide useful info and guidance which covers all areas related to undertaking a personal training business (e.g. business plan, allied health lists, program designs etc);
  • The Sunday timetable were convenient for me being a mum with two children & with limited time during the working week;
  • Practical sessions provided an opportunity for interactive learning, exposing the group to different training techniques (e.g. plyometrics);
  • Course coordinator (Chris Alexander) was very obliging, providing prompt information when required;
  • Time spent on theory & practical sessions was balanced; and
  • Finally, the course has given me confidence and equipped me to deal with special populations (eg. Children, older people, injured people).

I would highly recommend this course.
- Nadia Grant (B.Sci & Cert IV in Fitness)

My own business

I was looking for a course that would help me become a fitness instructor. These courses not only taught me every aspect of Personal Training but helped me to setup my own business. Since I received my accreditation my business just keeps on growing.
